Making Tax Digital quarterly updates
Once Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applies to you, HMRC expects a cumulative update of your income and expenses every quarter, instead of one figure at the end of the year. BusyBee Hub sends these straight from the records you're already keeping (invoices, expenses, bills and payments).
The flow, in short:
1. [Connect to HMRC](/support/connect-to-hmrc). Add your National Insurance number, then authorise BusyBee Hub with HMRC. We read your businesses, your Making Tax Digital status, and your quarterly obligations.
2. [Choose standard or calendar quarters](/support/standard-or-calendar-quarters) for each business, before its first update of the tax year.
3. [Send each quarterly update](/support/send-a-quarterly-update). Review the figures we've built, check the warnings, and confirm. We show you HMRC's result immediately, and HMRC's own "in-year" calculation next to BusyBee Hub's own estimate once you've sent at least one update.
Deadlines fall on 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May each year. The Making Tax Digital page shows every obligation with its due date, and your tax timeline lists the same deadlines alongside the rest of your Self Assessment dates.
Once every update for a tax year is sent and the year has ended, replace your old annual Self Assessment return with a Final Declaration (see Filing your Final Declaration).
