Claim back CIS deductions
If you're registered for CIS, contractors deduct tax before paying you, and that deducted amount counts as tax you've already paid towards your Self Assessment bill. BusyBee Hub keeps a running total of every deduction, by contractor and by tax month, on the CIS page in your sidebar.
Where you see the total
The Deducted card on the CIS page adds up every deduction for the tax year you're viewing (realised automatically when you record a contractor's payment, or added manually if you need to). It's the same figure your tax estimate on Taxes already includes, with a link back here.
The tax return box
At year end, the CIS page's total for the tax year is the figure for:
- SA103F box 81 (full Self Employment pages), or
- SA103S box 38 (short Self Employment pages)
(the total CIS deductions taken from you in the tax year, 6 April to 5 April.)
Export your figures
Use Export CSV on the CIS page for a spreadsheet of every contractor and tax month, with the amounts deducted and each statement's status, the same evidence HMRC may ask for if they query your return.
Keep the payment and deduction statements your contractors give you somewhere safe (or upload them here with Smart Capture); they're your proof of what was deducted.
Once the tax year has ended, connect to HMRC and use the CIS deductions step of your Final Declaration to see what each contractor reported and send your own figures where they differ; see Check your CIS deductions with HMRC.
